June 16th-17th, 2016, the international conference, "EU Law Enforcement Information Exchange: Development of Passenger Name Record (PNR) System" was held at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU).

MRU, together with partners from 5 EU countries and institutions, is implementing the European Commission funded project, "Pilot Programme for Data Exchange of the Passenger Information Units." It allows for EU-member states to exchange PNR data concerning persons traveling by plane.

The conference is a part of the European Commission-funded project whose goal is to discuss the new Directive (EU) 2016/681 of the European Parliament and the Council on the use of passenger name record data for prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crimes.

Representatives from the State Security Department, Police Department, Customs Department, National Security and Defense Committee, Civil Aviation Administration, and the State Border Guard Service plan to participate in the event.

In addition, guests from 13 member states of the EU attended the event from Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Poland, Belgium, Finland, Malta, as well as representatives from the U.S. and Australia.

Guests from “Europol” and “eu-LISA” may join the event.
