Deputy Vice-Rector Sakalauskas: LinkedIn Gateway For Business-Minded Students

Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Marketing Head & Deputy Vice-Rector for Development Šarūnas Sakalauskas says it's becoming fashionable for students and recent graduates to start a business.

"Now in Lithuania, it's the time for setting up your own business," Sakalauskas said in an interview with the "bzn Start" monthly magazine.

I think all of us, at one time or another, have thought about going into business for ourselves, he added.

The professional network LinkedIn is a source of finding out about MRU students who have started businesses, he said. Although it's complicated to keep track of all enterprising business-minded students, LinkedIn helps the process.

"LinkedIn is a source of future measurement and statistics data," he added.

"One of the main goals of our University is that a graduate would be equipped with the necessary competencies, which would allow to establish a business and hire others."

Sakalauskas said many young people are now involved in start-ups.

"The tendency and dynamics are not bad. Each year there are more and more enterprising business-minided students," he pointed out.

Some University Faculties award their students, who have created businesses.

Two years ago MRU's Economics and Finance Management Faculty began to select the best business initiative of the year.

"We encourage students to present more business initiatives to the market. Each year we are searching for new ideas," he said.
