    Get Law Degree at MRU & Quick Access to U.S. LL.M
    From this fall, the School of American Law, offering the first and only Pre-LL.M study program of its kind in Lithuania, will begin activities at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU). An agreement between MRU‘s Law Faculty and Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology has already been signed establishing the School. It allows fast track and direct access to U.S. LL.M with faster completion time

    Ukrainian Univ of Banking Delegation Visits MRU June 17th-21st
    June 17th-21st, a delegation of lecturers from the University of Banking of the National Bank of Ukraine is visiting MRU. Prof. Yana Malykhina and Prof. Valeriia Podchesova are meeting with MRU's Law Faculty and Economics and Finance Management professors during their visit.

    Dignitaries, Ambassadors Attend Opening of Damušis Democracy Studies Center
    June 13th, dignitaries, Seimas parliament members and others were on hand for the opening of the Adolfas Damušis Democracy Studies Centre at Mykolas Romeris University. The Centre was established marking the 105th anniversary of the birth of activist, statesman, inventor, professor Adolfas Damušis (1908-2003) whose birthday is June 16th.

    June 1st-July 30th, University of Palermo Assoc. Prof. Salvatore Casabona will visit MRU and conduct research on online gambling regulation at MRU's Law Faculty.

    NEW: Students Can Open Access MRU e-Books FREE Anytime
    MRU has become the first university in Lithuania to offer open access to all books published at MRU's Publishing House at no charge to students. Others have access to read the books online at no charge. "All our books are open access," said MRU Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations Prof. Inga Žalėnienė meaning that students who have limited funds, don't need to buy textbooks, but can access and read them for free via the e-books portal.

    Vice-Rector Prof. Žalėnienė Met with Volunteer Club Members
    May 28th, MRU Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations Prof. Inga Žalėnienė met with student volunteers to discuss where they can volunteer their time. Vice-Rector Žalėnienė said the upcoming international conference, "Horizons for Social Sciences and Humanities"  held during Lithuania's EU Presidency Sept. 23rd-24th, will draw up to 400 participants from all over the world. It will be a great opportunity for volunteers to greet and meet guests, participate and help make foreign guests feel at home at MRU.

    Doctoral Students Participated in Scientists Forum in Baku
    May 20th -25th, MRU Law Faculty doctoral students Tomas Ambrasas and Vytautas Šenavičius presented their research and made presentations at the Young Scientist's 1st International Baku Forum. It was organized by the Azerbaijan Youth and Sports Ministry and the Azerbaijan Young Scientists' Association (AYSPMU), in close cooperation with the European Young Researchers and Doctoral Students Council (EURODOC).

    MRU Students Heading to South Korea for Summer School
    July 7th-28th, MRU Student Representative Body (MRUSA) President law student Lukas Borusevičius, will be traveling to South Korea to attend the "Asian Summer Programme 2013" summer school that will be held on the campus of Dongseo University in Busan. He will be joined by former MRUSA President and MRU law student Andrius Zalitis.

    China, Norway, Uganda Reps Meet for LATINA Workshop May 22nd-June 1st
    May 22nd-June 1st, representatives from half a dozen countries will be meeting at MRU for seminars and library info workshops, "LATINA - The Post-IT Library." Participants come from not only Belgium, China and Norway, but also Sweden, Spain and Uganda to learn how to effectively adapt new technologies in librarianship, teaching and learning processes.

    Alumni Career Day Events Included Discussions, Concerts, Fun
    May 17th, MRU Alumni Career Day events were held on campus and packed with events including how to land a job, making contacts at the Contacts' Fair, discussions and concerts with fun in the sun. MRU's "Skalsa" folk dancers performed and the highlight of the evening was a concert by pop star Egidijus Sipavičius.

    Communication University of China Academics Visited MRU May 16th
    May 16th, a 5-person delegation from Beijing's Communication University of China (CUC) headed by Prof. Zhengrog Hu, visited MRU, met with the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations Prof. Inga Žalėnienė and discussed ways of cooperation. They toured MRU's campus, and visited the MRU Library. The Chinese delegation was accompanied by Mr. Liu Zengwen, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China for Lithuania and other officials from the Embassy.

    Prof. from France Presents Series of Lectures on "European Identity"
    May 13th-14th, Prof. Alexandre Met from the Aix-en-Provence Institute of Political Studies (France) presented a series of lectures according to the joint module, "European Identity." This is the last of three lecture series that have been presented in conjunction with the elite Institute of Political Studies in France.

    Top Brass, Students, Staff Help Clean MRU Park May 10th
    May 10th, despite a sprinkle of showers, MRU Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations Prof. Inga Žalėnienė, Vice-Rector for Development Stasys Vaitkevičius, Infrastructure Vice-Rector Vladas Brakauskas, students and staff were out in full force to clean out MRU's park, rake leaves and pick up garbage.

    U.S. Federal Judge Amon & U.S. Attorney Silver Lectured at MRU
    May 9th, U.S. District Ct Judge Carol Bagley Amon and Daniel Silver from the U.S. Attorney's Office, visited MRU and presented lectures to students. Silver, a graduate of Brown University, is Chief of the National Security and Cybercrime section in the Eastern District of the U.S. Attorney's Office. Judge Amon sits on U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The visit was organized in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy in Lithuania.

    Interior Minister Barakauskas Opens Public Safety Forum
    May 9th, Minister of the Interior Dailis Alfonsas Barakauskas opened a public safety, police forum, "Investment in Police: Safe Man, Good Management, Great Community." Discussion centered on how to assure citizen safety with limited resources and the view of police officers through the eyes of society and officials.

    Great Showing for MRU Team at U.S. Jessup Competition
    May 9th, MRU Rector Prof. Alvydas Pumputis met with MRU's Team that had a successful showing, coming in 35th place, in the Philip C. Jessup competition in Washington, D.C. There were more than 600 teams from 90 countries that took part in the competition. MRU's team in the written part of the competition placed 20th, overtaking the Cambridge Univ team, which was 26th. The competition was held March 31st-April 6th in Washington, D.C.

    May 6th-10th, there are 15 staff members from partner universities visiting MRU for the 4th International Staff Exchange Week. Representatives have come from the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Poland.

    U.K. Middlesex University Delegation Visit May 8th-9th
    May 8th-9th, a delegation of academics from Middlesex University will be visiting MRU. During the 2-day visit they will conduct an institutional evaluation of MRU and external evaluation of 3 Master's Degree and 2 Bachelor's Degree programmes.

    Disabled Students Performed at Drum Fest Concert May 6th
    May 6th,  well-known percussion Prof. Piotr Sutt (Poland) conducted a group of disabled musicians from various Vilnius Day Centers, in concert, as part of the International Drum and Percussion Festival VILNIUS 2013. The event was the first concert held outdoors this year - in the sunshine, in the inner courtyard of Mykolas Romeris University. It was also the first concert of the Festival.

    MRU Law Prof. Tamošiūnienė Sworn In as Justice of Appeals Court
    April 22nd, Law Prof. Egidija Tamošiūnienė was sworn in as a Justice of the Court of Appeal of Lithuania in a ceremony at the Presidential Palace. Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė presided over the ceremony and signed a decree regarding Tamošiūnienės appointment. Prof. Tamošiūnienė is Director of MRU Law Faculty's Institute of Civil Justice.
    Japanese Professor's Lecture Opened MRU's Asian Centre April 23rd
    April 23rd, at the opening of MRU's Asian Centre, Prof. Masayuki Tadokoro from Tokyo's Keio University (see photo) presented a lecture, "Asia Today and Europe." MRU Asian Centre Head Assoc. Prof. Kyoko Koma and Japan's Ambassador residing in Lithuania Kazuko Shiraishi attended the opening.

    Prof. Kiškis' Shanghai Letter: Pollution, Hard-Working Students & Learning Chinese
    From Feb. 26th, MRU Institute of Communication and Informatics Prof. Mindaugas Kiškis is in Shanghai spending a semester teaching and says students are hard working, diligent and study more than at MRU. Prof. Kiškis is teaching "EU Intellectual Property & Technology Law" at East China Univ of Science and Technology (ECUST).

    April Snow Continues to Paint MRU's Campus White
    April 10th, (Wednesday), snow fell all morning in Vilnius at Mykolas Romeris University's campus covering paths, sidewalks, byways and benches in the MRU Park white. Snow continued to fall throughout the afternoon, although temperatures hovered around 1+ C. It seems that spring has gone on vacation and sleepy, white winter has returned in full force.

    Ukrainian Yaroslav the Wise Law Academy Officials Visit MRU
    April 10th, a delegation from Ukraine's National University "Yaroslav the Wise Law Academy of Ukraine" led by Vice-Rector Prof. Jurij Bitiak visited MRU to discuss possibilities for cooperation. National Juridical Academy Vice-President Prof. Aleksandr Petrishin and Labour Law Dept. Prof. Sergei Prilipko were part of the delegation.

    MRU's Chaplain Narijauskas Heading to Brazil in July
    From the beginning of July, MRU Chaplain Father Povilas Narijauskas is heading to Brazil where he and two MRU students will be attending World Youth Day 2013 events. He will be in Brazil from July 8th-August 3rd. Youth Day events will be held in Rio de Janeiro, but Father Narijauskas said he will be visiting Sao Paulo as well. The newly-elected Pope Francis will be in Brazil at the end of July to meet with young people from throughout the world.
    Law Prof. Aurelijus Gutauskas Sworn In as Supreme Ct Justice
    March 28th, Law Prof. Aurelijus Gutauskas was sworn in as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Lithuania in a ceremony held in the Seimas. Parliament members voted 97-5 to approve his nomination to the Highest Court.

    March 27th, Education and Science Minister Prof. Dainius Pavalkis presented the European Commission's ECTS Label badge to MRU Rector Prof. Alvydas Pumputis in a ceremony that took place at the Seimas during the confererence, "Europe's Citizen."     Rector Lauds Assoc. Prof. A. Kiškis for Upholding Academic Standards
    March 26th, MRU Rector Prof. Alvydas Pumputis met with Law Faculty Dean Prof. Rima Ažubalytė and Criminal Law & Process Institute Assoc. Prof. Alfredas Kiškis. The Rector thanked Assoc.     In September, School of American Law Starts Up at MRU
    From September 1st, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) - in conjunction with the Chicago Kent College of Law, will inaugurate "The School of American Law" at MRU. It will allow MRU students to attend law lectures in 10 different subjects ranging from Commercial Law to Intellectual Property in English. Courses will be taught by American professors and lecturers from the Chicago Kent College of Law.

    MRU Law Professors Recommended to Sit on ECHR Bench
    March 21st, a working group at the Justice Ministry recommended 3 candidates to the Premier for sitting on the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) bench. Two of the candidates are MRU Law Professors: Ignas Vėgėlė (see photo) and prof. Lyra Jakulevičienė. A total of nine individuals had expressed interest in the ECHR post.

    Law Prof. Gutauskas Heading for the Supreme Court Bench
    March 21st, Law Prof. Aurelijus Gutauskas, nominated to the Supreme Court of Lithuania, appeared before Seimas parliament members. The Seimas will cast ballots at the end of March to decide whether to approve his candidacy. In May 2013, British textbook publisher Routledge will publish Gutauskas' book, "Organized Crime in Lithuania."

    Professors from Portugal & Latvia at MRU Discuss Joint Master's Pgms
    March 19th-21st, professors from Portugal's Porto University and Latvia's Rīga Stradiņš University are visiting MRU's Social Policy Faculty to discuss the joint Master's Study programme, "Social Work with Children and Youth." The goal of the visit is to prepare an international project member cooperation plan to implement a joint Master's Study programme and to determine its guidelines.

    Japanese Prof. Uchida Lectured on Business Management March 7th
    March 7th, (Thursday), Waseda University Prof. Kaz Uchida (Japan) presented a lecture, "Business Management in Japanese Style" at MRU. Japan's Ambassador in Lithuania Kazuko Shiraishi attended the lecture along with MRU Institute of Humanities Dept. of Applied Languages Assoc. Prof. Kyoko Koma, also from Japan. Prof. Uchida is visiting Lithuania at the behest of the Japanese Foreign Affairs Ministry.

    Psychology Prof. Žukauskienė Received National Science Prize
    March 5th,  MRU Psychology Prof. Rita Žukauskienė received the 2012 Lithuanian Science Prize during a ceremony at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. She was recognized for research dealing with the psychological welfare of Lithuania's children, youth and adults. Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius attended the ceremony and congratulated prof. Žukauskienė. The prize comes with a check totaling about 29,000 Euros.

    European Univ Assn (EUA) Experts Advise MRU & Laud Student Body
    Feb. 15th, the head of a delegation of experts of the European University Association (EUA) Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) presented their findings. Expert delegation head Prof. Ferdinand Devinsky, the former Rector of Comenius University in Bratislava (see photo), congratulated MRU on its student body, encouraged development of distance education and lifelong learning and urged strengthening of student exchanges - Erasmus.

    Orientation Week Events Begin for MRU Intl Degree-Seeking Students
    Feb. 12th, (Tuesday), 10:00 a.m. in Room II-230 Conference Hall., orientation week events begin for MRU International degree-seeking students.     Psychology Prof. Rita Žukauskienė Awarded 2012 National Science Prize
    Feb. 7th,  Lithuania's Academy of Sciences awarded MRU Psychology Prof. Rita Žukauskienė the prestigious 2012 Lithuanian Science Prize for research dealing with the psychological welfare of Lithuania's children, youth and adults. The prize, to be awarded in March, comes with a check totaling Lt 101,400 Lt (about 29,300 Euros.) Congratulations!

    TEMPUS Project Partners Met at MRU Feb. 5th-8th
    Feb. 5th-8th, Tempus project partners from European Union and Russian institutions of higher education met at MRU to discuss preparation of the project and possibilities of preparing joint programmes. The project partners came to MRU at the behest of MRU's Social Policy Faculty.
    MRU Makes Leap in World Univ Internet (Webometrics) Ratings
    In the Jan. 2013 rankings of universities worldwide, MRU has made the biggest leap forward among Lithuania's universities coming in at 1915th position of more than 21,000 universities. MRU is 6th in rankings of the 47 Lithuanian universities and colleges, Spain's National Research Council's Cybermetrics Lab, devoted to analysis of Internet and Web contents, reports.

    White Winter Snow Blankets MRU's Campus
    Feb. 3rd, winter snow blanketed the campus of Mykolas Romeris University making for a picture perfect scene. The snow in MRU's park was ankle high covering all the benches. Trees drooped from the weight of the snow on their branches.

    Graduation Ceremonies at MRU's Law Faculty Held Feb. 1st
    February 1st, there were 285 Law Faculty graduates that were awarded diplomas during graduation ceremonies. The figure includes 119 Bachelor's Degree diplomas as well as one Leader diploma awarded to Biolaw Graduate student Lina Svidinskaitė for her great marks (in photo first on the left). An additional 12 students from the joint EU Law and Governance Master's Degree programme received diplomas from both MRU and France's Montesquieu University - Bordeaux IV.     Introductory Week Events for Intl Students Jan. 29th-Feb. 2nd
    Jan. 29th-Feb. 2nd, introductory week events for international exchange students are being held on MRU's campus as well over 130 students gathered to begin the new spring semester. Students are getting acquainted with MRU's campus, settling in the dorms and visiting the castle town of Trakai and the resort town of Druskininkai.

    Master's Degree Grads - Including Diligent Nigerian Awarded Diplomas Jan. 30th
    Jan. 30th, Nigerian Odigie Ulinfun was awarded a Master's Degree dipoma after completing MRU's e-Business Management programme. He was one of 86 Master's Degree students that received diplomas. Another international student, Shabnam Gahramanova from Azerbaijan, received her diploma after completing the Welfare Sociology programme.     Law Graduate from Slovakia Heading to Brussels for EU Job
    February 1st, MRU Law graduate student Juraj Kunak from Slovakia, fluent in Lithuanian, will graduate with a Master's Degree in European Union Law and Governance. A former MRU Erasmus student, he was so impressed with studies here, he decided to enter the joint Master's Degree programme that is implemented by France's Montesquieu University - Bordeaux IV and the Law Faculty of MRU. Studies were conducted in English.

    From the fall, the new joint Middlesex University and Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Business and Media School (BMS) will begin operating. Students will study in English with academics from the U.K. at MRU.     Law Prof. Dambrauskaitė Gets Green Light for EU Court
    Jan. 29th, Lithuania's government approved the proposal of Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis to appoint MRU Law Prof. Asta Dambrauskaitė to to the General Court (EGC) of the European Union for a 6-year term. She is a professor in MRU Law Faculty's Department of Civil and Commercial Law.

    MRU's Assoc. Prof. Vasarienė Appointed to Supreme Court
    Jan. 17th, Lithuania's Seimas overwhelmingly approved the candidacy of MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Dalia Vasarienė to the Supreme Court of Lithuania. Seimas, taking into account the Decree of President Dalia Grybauskaitė voted 90-9 for her appointment to the Supreme Court.

    Group of Experts from Germany's AHPGS Agency Visited Jan. 14-15th
    Jan. 14-15th, experts from the German Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS) visited MRU to evaluate 13 study programmes. They met with representatives of several MRU Faculties including: Law, Economics & Finance Management, Public Security, Social Policy and Politics & Management. The AHPGS Agency is responsible for accrediting programmes at private and state higher education institutions.

    Education Minister Pavalkis Opens Pupils' Winter Forum Event at MRU
    January 4th, (Friday), Education & Science Minister Dainius Pavalkis (see photo) told several hundred pupils not to admire foreign countries so much and if they decide to study abroad, they should return to Lithuania. The Minister made opening remarks at the Pupils' Winter Forum 2013 event being held on campus Jan. 4th-6th. Pupils from 35 different municipalities are participating in the annual event to discuss, "What Should a Pupils' Rep Know?"

    U.S. Painter Stankūnė's Art Goes On Display at Library
    January 3rd, a series of paintings, "Potpourri of Melodies," by U.S. painter Magdalena Birutė Stankūnė, were placed on display in MRU's Library's lower level near the Circulation desk. Stankūnė, who turns 88 years old on January 5th, is a well-known emigre painter and donated the 6 paintings last year to the University, where they have become part of MRU's permanent art collection.

    Designer Baradinskienė Exhibit "Between the Clouds" Opens at Library
    June 6th, designer Rasa Baradinskienė opened her playful, unique accessories exhibition, "Between the Clouds" in the lower level lobby of MRU's Library. Accessories - necklaces, chains, ornaments are all on dispay. The designer puts lots of positive energy in her signature works of art, many which feature individuals joining hands as if to embark on a journey.

    Mykolas Romeris University is inviting young researchers to apply for postdoctoral fellowship grants.     Erasmus Theater Presents BBC Comedy, "Black Adder" May 22nd
    May 22nd, 14:40 hrs., in I-201 room, the MRU Erasmus Theater Team presents the reenactment of Blackadder, the classic BBC comedy. The play is set in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558–1603), and features the principal character, Edmund, Lord Blackadder, as a Tudor courtier attempting to win the favour of the Queen while avoiding the fate that befell many of her suitors. Come and see it for yourself!

    Photos from Paris, Panama, Nicaragua on Display in New Library Exhibit
    From May 10th, the MRU Library has begun to exhibit the works of photographers belonging the Union of Lithuanian Art Photographers taken in places as varied as Panama, Paris and Nicaragua. The exhibit titled, "Lithuania's Photography: Yesterday and Today" is on display in the lower level lobby of the Library. One of the more interesting photos is that of Lithuanian sculptor Antanas Mončys sitting in a Paris cafe in 1987. He was photographed by Antanas Sutkus.

    April 20th, 13:00 hrs., MRU's Choir and the Vaasa University Choir (Finland) will appear in concert at the Vilnius Applied Art Museum (Taikomosios dailės muziejus, Arsenalo g. 3A, VIlnius). They will perform the works of composers from Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Lithuania and others. All invited to attend.

    Pliavgo's "Summertime" Aria Outstanding at "Sugrįžimai" Concert
    April 9th, soprano Ilona Pliavgo performed an outstanding rendition of "Summertime" from George Gershwin's opera, "Porgy and Bess" at a concert held at MRU. It was part of the XV "Sugrįžimai" Musical Festival held on campus. She was accompanied by Gražina Zalatorienė on the grand piano. In addition, violinist Ieva Pranskutė (Lithuania/Austria) performed along with Marta Grigaliūnaitė on the grand piano (Lithuania/Great Britain).

    Ambassadors Lectured at MRU on "Elysee Treaty" April 8th
    April 8th, Ambassador of the French Republic in Lithuania Maryse Eveline Berniau and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Lithuania Matthias Heinrich Mulmenstadt visited MRU and presented lectures in English. They discussed, "50 years of the Elysee Treaty." The event marked Europe Day as well as allowed for exchange of opinions about the EU's political and economic perspectives.

    Library Opens Book Exhibit Marking 100th Birthday of Author, Journalist Bražėnas
    April 4th, MRU's Library opened a book exhibit dedicated to commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of author, journalist, lecturer Vilius Bražėnas, who was born on April 6th, 1913. He passed away in 2010. The book exhibit is on display in the Library's exhibit stand near the Longish Reading Room.

    The new school is a partnership with U.K. London-based Middlesex University and will allow students to study in English at MRU with British academics and get a double degree.     The e-Money System MokiPay Kicks Off at MRU in May
    In May, the electronic payment system MokiPay is set to be fully implemented at MRU's campus. That means students and staff wishing to dine in the cafeteria, grab a bite in the Library cafe or pay any Library fees will only be able to do so using a newly-issued Student ID card or MokiPay card, normally attached to a mobil phone (Omnitel or Bitė). It will be an historic moment as cash becomes a thing of the past on campus.

    Norway's Finance Expert Stig Myrseth Lecture - "Stock Picking" March 25th
    March 25th, 18:30 hrs., in MRU's I-414 aud., Norway's best investor Stig Myrseth will present a lecture, "Stock Picking" at MRU. He is one of the most recognized Norwegian finance experts who in 2010/2011 was selected by Norway's finance daily, "Finansavisen" as the best investment portfolio manager in Norway.     Kazėnas' Abstract Photographics Exhibit Opened March 26th
    March 26th, the colourful photographics exhibit of Zinas Kazėnas opened in MRU's 1st floor Rotonda Hall lobby. Commenting on the Kazėnas exhibit, art critic Eglė Jaškūnienė said that everyone that has come into contact with photography, knows the unexpected effects produced during the printing or even the photography process. However, it is not everyone that sees the creative potential of such work. Kazėnas has managed to see, record and present it, and tap into the beauty of the process. Come view the exhibit.

    Architect & Painter Purys Opens Watercolour Exhibit in MRU's Library
    March 19th, architect and painter Albinas Purys opened his watercolour exhibition in the lobby of MRU's Library. Purys' paintings depict landscapes, seaside scenes, the Vilnius old quarter with a scene from Skapo gatve as well as a colourful depiction of a castle (see photo).     MRU & Korea's Dongseo Univ Agree on Digital Contents Joint Bachelor's Degree
    May 22nd, MRU Rector Prof. Alvydas Pumputis signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Korea's Dongseo University President Jekuk Chang and Užupis Creative Cluster President Vytautas Ratkevičius. The agreement paves the way for establishing a Bachelor's Degree study programme with joint diploma in the area of digital contents.

    May 30th, MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Justinas Usonis participated in a discussion on youth employment, during the summer, on the "Laisvoji Banga" radio programme, "Morning Theme." Usonis, an attorney, discussed the ways it is possible for 14-18 year-olds to gain employment in Lithuania and the documents needed.

    MRU Grad Student from Jamaica Despite Cold, Loves Lithuania
    April 29th, the onlilne daily news portal 15min.lt published an interview with MRU graduate student Keisha LaRaine Ingram from Jamaica. She says that she was told about the bitter cold weather in Lithuania, but survived the winter and despite all has fallen in love with Lithuania. She also praised MRU professors saying that they know how to present information so that everyone will understand, despite cultural differences.

    April 29th, MRU Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Saulius Spurga was one of the participants at a roundtable discussion on the "Žinių radijas" programme, "Įvykiai ir komentarai" (Events and Commentary). Participants discussed politics, energy, whether Lithuania needs to build a new nuclear plant and the disappearance of Seimas parliament member Neringa Venckienė. Spurga is an Assoc.     Assoc. Prof. Diržytė Discussed Suicide & Death of Actor
    April 23rd, psychologist, MRU Assoc. Prof. Aistė Diržytė appeared on the late nite "Lietuvos Rytas" TV programme, "Nuoga Tiesa" (The Naked Truth). She discussed suicide and the death of the famous Lithuanian actor Vytautas Šapranauskas who committed suicide April 18th, 2013. Diržytė is an Assoc. Prof. in the Social Policy Faculty's Institute of Psychology.

    The February 2nd "Studies 2013" supplement in the daily, „Lietuvos Žinios,“ features an interview with MRU Vice-Rector for Education Assoc. Prof. Giedrius Viliunas and MRU Master‘s Degree "EU Law and Governance" programme graduate Juraj Kunak (see photo) from Slovakia. The law programme graduate says studies at MRU helped him land a job in the European Commission in Brussels. Kunak is fluent in not only English, but also Arabic and Lithuanian.

    Study Abroad - at MRU's New Business & Media School
    Jan. 31st, the "Vilniaus Diena" weekly newspaper's "Kur Studijuoti?" (Where to Study) magazine published an interview with MRU Prof. Aelita Skaržauskienė, the future head of the "Business and Media School" (BMS) at MRU. The new school is a partnership with U.K. London-based Middlesex University and will allow students to study in English at MRU with British academics and get a double degree.

    Jamaican Student Getting Accustomed to Quiet & Snow in Vilnius
    January 5th, the daily Lithuanian newspaper, "Lietuvos Rytas" published a full-page interview with MRU Master's Degree student Keisha Ingram from Jamaica, who noted that the snow in Vilnius is whiter and cleaner than that in the U.S. or U.K. Her first impression of Vilnius was of a city full of history and culture, where fellow travelers on a bus don't converse and there is no loud music blaring from passing cars.

    January 2nd, the weekly news magazine "Veidas" published an article on higher education in which MRU Rector Prof. Alvydas Pumputis (see photo) is quoted on the need for Lithuania to have more university graduates.     MRU Erasmus Student From Denmark At Home in Vilnius
    From Mozambique to Copenhagen and beyond, globetrotting MRU Erasmus student Augustina Leonaitė just can't stay put in one place. The 22-year-old polyglot is an undergraduate student in Denmark's Roskilde University (RUC), just outside of Copenhagen. Having been away from Lithuania for 4 years, she decided to spend an Erasmus semester studying at MRU in her home town of Vilnius.

    Greek Student With Passion for Theater, Loves to Make People Laugh
    Greek student Stefanos Antypas, now at MRU, was a stand-up comedian back in his home country. Now the 23-year-old computer science student, at the Technological Education Institute of Athens, is undertaking a 6-month internship at MRU's Institute of Communications and Informatics. He is also directing and acting in the Erasmus Theater-staged BBC comedy, the Blackadder, which premieres at MRU May 22nd.

    Armenian Student: MRU Dual Master's Degree Valuable Learning Experience
    MRU student Vazgen Ghazaryan from Armenia, who defends his thesis this month, said the dual Master's Electronic Business Management program "was a most valuable learning experience" and helped him develop professional skills. Ghazaryan is completing a dual Master's in collaboration with Eurasia International University (EIU). His thesis, "Cloud Computing Development in Armenia," will be defended via video-conferencing, the first time a student will do so by long distance.

    Grad Student from Brazil to Pursue PhD Studies at MRU
    MRU graduate Vladas Bartochevis from Sao Paulo, Brazil learned Lithuanian to pursue studies in Vilnius. This month will be 9 years that he first arrived on Lithuanian soil. Armed with a Master's Degree in Sociology from MRU (graduated in Jan. 2013), he now plans to continue his studies and pursue his PhD at MRU in the fall.

    French Lecturers Conduct Language Training for Freshmen April 15th-19th
    April 15th-19th, Universite de La Rochelle English language lecturer Yves Badiou and the University's French as a Foreign Language Learning Centre (CUFLE) Director Isabelle Queroux will be visiting MRU and conducting language training for MRU freshman language majors. Badiou's focus will be on Legal English, while Queroux will conduct French language training.

    Jan. 8-11th, Poland's Elbląg State School of Higher Professional Education academic Malgorzata Przybysz-Zaremba will be presenting a series of lectures at MRU to Social Policy Faculty students of the Social Work programme. The lectures, dealing with Violence in Families, Dysfunctional Families as well as Social Support Systems for Families, will be presented in Polish with translation into Lithuanian.

    MRU Student Šuklinas Wins Gold in European Canoe Championships
    June 16th, Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated MRU Master's Degree student Jevgenij Šuklinas, after he won a gold medal in the 2013 Canoe European Championship that was held in Portugal earlier this month. Šuklin, who is studying public administration, triumphed in the single canoe 200 m sprint event. He told BNS and online portal lrytas.lt journalists that he "very happy" with the result.

    Seimas Chairman Gedvilas Handed Out Gold Medals to MRU Champs
    June 12th, Seimas parliament chairman Vydas Gedvilas awarded gold medals to MRU's Men's Basketball players in Kaunas after their historic defeat 80:74 of the Lithuanian Sports University Team last month. MRU Basketball player Antanas Udras, 21, was selected the most valuable player of the Lithuanian Student Basketball League's (LSKL) regular season.

    HISTORIC WIN - MRU's Men's Basketball Team Grabs Gold
    May 30th, MRU Men's Basketball Team won gold medals after defeating 80:74 opponents from the Lithuanian Sports University Team in the Kaunas Sports Hall during the Lithuanian Student Basketball League's (LSKL) championships for the 2012-2013 season. It's the first time that MRU's Men's Team won the LSKL championships making victory even sweeter.

    Students to Help with UEFA European Under-19 Championship Organization
    MRU students will help organize the upcoming Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Under-19 Championship that will be held July 20th-August 1st in three Lithuanian cities: Kaunas, Alytus and Marijampolė. This is the first time Lithuania will host a continental final tournament on its territory.

    Rowers Ritter & Maščinskas Win Silver in European Rowing Championships
    May 31st-June 2nd in the European Rowing Championship held in Seville, Spain, MRU rowers - Rolandas Maščinskas and Saulius Ritter, won silver medals in the double pairs category.     MRU Champs Head to Split to Win EUC Basketball Championships
    Decked out in gold medals, MRU's champion basketball team is heading to Split, Croatia for the 12th European Universities Basketball Championships (EUC) that will be held in Split, Croatia, July 21-28th. MRU Health and Sports Centre Head Prof. Rimantas Minkevičius said the team has a good shot at medals.

    June 9th, MRU Master's Degree student and chess player Deimantė Daulytė spurred her represented chess team, "Termo EKO/RŠF" to victory in Latvia's Team Chess Championships held in Riga. Daulytė added another trophy to her collection after the win.

    MRU's Canoeist Šuklin Selected 2012 Athlete of the Year
    Dec. 11th, MRU Master's Degree student, Olympics champion and canoeist Jevegenij Šuklin (see photo) was selected 2012 Athlete of the Year at a ceremony in Kaunas marking the Lithuanian Students' Sports Association's 90th anniversary.     March 4th, MRU's Basketball team defeated the Šiaulių University team 102-88 and cemented their 1st place position becoming winners of the Lithuanian Student Basketball League's (LSKL) regular season.     Jan. 28th, MRU's Men's Basketball Team defeated Vilnius University's team 88-71 marking MRU's 5th victory in a row. The MRU team is now ranked first in the Lithuanian Student Basketball League's (LSKL) rankings of 9 university basketball teams having 10 wins and 2 losses.
