October 6th and 7th, 2011 International Exchange Unit together with ESN MRU Vilnius organized a trip to secondary schools in Lithuania. Erasmus students, several mentors and members of the International Exchange Unit visited “Ąžuolas” gymnasium in Zarasai and “Dauniškio” gymnasium to share experience from studying at Mykolas Romeris University and promote exchange studies abroad.

The official part in “Ąžuolas” gymnasium started at midday when pupils introduced the history of their school, traditions, event they celebrate. The presentation was welcoming and pupils did the great job preparing their presentation in English, performing a theatrical fragment from composition “Ąžuolui ir mokytojui” (“For the oak and for a teacher”), choir performance with G. Markevičius singing “What a wonderful World”.

As guests from MRU we introduced our cultural experiences and knowledge. The tutor of Erasmus for Schools event Ieva Tondirkaitytė presented the university, studies, education and possibilities of studies and internships abroad. ESN members also informed about specific fields of studies, presented their Erasmus experiences in Europe and East Asia.

Probably the most exciting part for gymnasium’s pupils was the presentation made by current Erasmus students in MRU. They were talking about their home counties and universities. Pupils took a chance to have closer look at opportunities to study in France, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey and many other countries. Every country was accompanied with loud applause and interest.

In Utena, “Dauniškio” gymnasium Erasmus students also had a chance to learn more about Utena, gymnasium and its life. Here they also shared the impressions about Lithuania and interesting facts from their countries.

After the official part everyone was invited to schools’ canteens for coffee and conversation with pupils from gymnasiums. It was nice to see cheery dialogues, chatty students gathering around, discussing about studies, travels, future plans and aspirations of young generation.

The last Erasmus for Schools visit will take place on 21st October in Vilnius region “Pagirių” gymnasium. We hope that it will also be a fine example of cooperation among education institutions relating young people from different countries and encouraging them to gain cross-cultural experience.
